Take the public transport directly to the 189th Wiesn!
From 21 September to 6 October 2024, it's that time of the year again - the popular Oktoberfest attracts visitors from all over the world to the many beer tents and rides on Munich's Theresienwiese. As always, you can get to your destination safely and in a relaxed manner using Munich's public transport system.
Our recommendation: Avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy Theresienwiese underground station and use one of the many neighbouring alternatives. The stops at Poccistraße and Goetheplatz (U3/U6) are ideal if you are coming from the north or south of the city. The Schwanthalerhöhle stop (U4/U5) is well suited if you are coming from the west of the city. If you are arriving by S-Bahn, long-distance/regional train or long-distance bus, it is best to get off directly at Hackerbrücke or at the main station and take a short walk of about one kilometre.
By the way: the MVV journey planner and the MVV app not only know the best connections to the festival grounds, but also the way to one of the 14 large festival tents, to the three tents at the "Oidn Wiesn" or to the famous Ferris wheel. Most of the beer tents, stalls and rides at the Wiesn close around 11:30 pm. In order to get you home (or to your hotel/hostel/Airbnb/etc.) safely and easily even at this time of night, we will be offering extended transport services at night together with the local transport companies. In particular, the underground, the S-Bahn and the MVV regional buses will run longer than usual. If you want to go to Taufkirchen, Oberhaching or Unterhaching, you are also welcome to use our new pilot project - the on-demand service FLEX - directly from Ostbahnhof or Neuperlach Süd, for example.
U4: Increased service between Arabellapark and Westendstraße at 10-minute intervals.
U5: Increased service between Laimer Platz and Neuperlach Süd/Neuperlach Zentrum, partly at 5-minute intervals
U6: Increased service, especially from/to Fröttmaning and Garching

The legal alcohol limit must be observed for bicycles and e-scooters as well!
The good news first: Admission to the Oktoberfest is free for all guests. All you have to do is follow a few rules (see the "Golden Rules" section) and you can then enjoy the festival without further ado.
For travelling to the Oktoberfest by public transport, on the other hand, you will need a valid ticket. If you do not already have a Deutschland-Ticket, we recommend the following tickets in particular:

If you are a guest at the Oktoberfest for the first time, there are many other questions that you are likely to ask yourself besides the question of how to get there.
In order to enjoy the festival safely and to the fullest, there are, on the one hand, the official "10 Golden Rules", which are highly recommended to every guest of the Theresienwiese.
On the other hand, we have also put together a few more unofficial tips for you.
1. Leave everything at home that you don't need for the party!
2. Bags & backpacks brought along may have a maximum volume of 3 litres and may not exceed the following size: 20 x 15 x 10cm*.
3. Glass bottles, gas spray cans with harmful contents, corrosive or colouring substances or objects that can be used as cutting, thrusting or stabbing weapons are prohibited.
4. No prams are allowed on the festival grounds on Saturdays (all day) and every day from 6 p.m. on.
5. Bicycles, scooters, skateboards and the like are never allowed on the festival grounds.
6. No animals are allowed except assistance dogs!
7. Plan your arrival and departure in good time :)
8. Use all entrances to the Wiesn around the festival grounds.
9. Use the Oktoberfest-Barometer: it shows you when the time is right for a stroll through the Wiesn.
10. No staying is allowed between 01:30 and 09:00.
* If necessary, larger bags can be handed in at the luggage deposit at the entrances P2, P5, P8 or P10 (subject to charge) before your stay on the festival grounds.
Even if all visitors to the Munich Oktoberfest simply want to enjoy a peaceful and happy festival, girls* and women* - despite the year 2023 - are still victims of sexualised violence and various assaults every year. Therefore, the campaign "Sichere Wiesn" (Safe Oktoberfest) has existed for about 10 years, which wants to counteract this and offers meaningful prevention work, on-site help and aftercare for girls* and women* in emergency situations.
You will find the organisers of this campaign on site in the so-called "Safe Space" in the Service Centre not far from the Bavaria Statue behind the Schottenhamel tent.
